When I look at my screen, itâs such an odd question that I canât help but reply.
Thai. Why?
Thai hurts my tummy
Good to know. Now I must get back to work. Text ya later about dinner.
He sends a frowning emoji, which I ignore to concentrate on my professional responsibilities. If I see him tonight for dinner, Iâm going to have to work through lunch and move some things around to get out of here at a decent hour.
The hours fly by, and before I know it, there is a call from lobby security about a food delivery. When I assure them that they have the wrong person, the guard repeats my name and insists I come down to straighten it out. Thoroughly confused, I dash to the elevator, intending to handle this interruption expeditiously and return to my desk.
As the elevator doors ping and the security desk comes into view, I see Sebastian standing there shooting the breeze with the security team. When he sees me, he hollers across the marble and steel lobby, echoing up to the third-story ceiling.
âChloe!â Sebastian exclaims, shaking hands with the guards before walking toward me with a takeout bag. âI decided to bring lunch to you since you were so busy.â
His thoughtful gesture takes me aback, and I canât help but smile at the sight of him.
âYou didnât have to do that. But thank you, Sebastian.â
His hand curls around my waist, leaning in for a chaste kiss on the lips, which catches me by surprise. Iâm not one for public displays of affection, especially at my workplace. Iâm about to tell him when he releases me to open the bag, showing me boxes of contents.
âItâs Thai. I didnât know what you liked, so I got a pork thing, a beef thing with noodles, and some chicken stuff.â
My uncomfortable feeling over the kiss fades fast as an awkward smile crosses his face, putting those dimples on full display.
âThereâs some coconut soup and spring rolls too.â
âOh my, I canât eat all that. Did you want to share it? We can eat in the break room upstairs or . . .â
It would be faster to eat and work uninterrupted at my desk. However, that would be highly selfish after such a pleasant surprise. Heeding Taylorâs advice to live in the moment, I leave the decision up to him.
âI donât want to bother you. I know you are busy.â
His eyes dart around the place as the lobby fills up with people passing through to go to lunch. Seeing his hesitancy, I canât help but appreciate his thoughtfulness. He seems to genuinely care about my workload and doesnât want to be a disruption, which is considerate.
âItâs not a bother at all, Sebastian. I could use the break.â
His eyes light up as I walk to the elevators, using my badge to get us to my secured floor. The elevator ride feels like itâs taking forever, and the aroma of Thai food is impossible to ignore. Sebastian is holding the bag when his stomach growls loudly, causing him to raise his eyebrows in surprise.
